Why Study Apologetics?

Apologetics simply refers to the defense of what you believe to be true. An Apologetics ministry is all about helping people with tough questions. Today, more then ever, we need lay apologists in politics, media, the arts, law, medicine and in all areas of the academy to hear and answer the call.

The famed Christian author, C.S. Lewis said, the question is not if we are apologists, but whether we will be effective apologists. All of us are called to have an answer for our hope in Jesus Christ (e.g. 1 Peter 3:15).

How Studying Apologetics Will Help You Serve the Church

There is a need in every congregation for trained Apologists to be ready to answer some of the toughest questions about God, the Bible, the evil in our world and more.

Studying Apologetics Can Help Build Your Confidence.

When you have studied apologetics, you are much more likely to live out the truth of the Gospel because you have a newfound confidence in the Biblical inerrancy of your beliefs.

Studying Apologetics Is Fun

The study of apologetics grapples with the big questions of life—Does God exist? Is there evidence the world was designed? Is there life after death? Who was Jesus? There is nothing more fascinating or engaging than taking the time to delve into the evidence of God’s hand in history, philosophy, and science.

A Congregation of Apologists Help Protect the Church from Heresy

From the first century forward, heretics have challenged key ideas about the character of God, the nature of salvation, and the reliability of the Scriptures. In the 1st century, the Apostle Paul used arguments to respond to Judaism, Hellenism, and early Gnosticism. In the 3rd century, Origen used apologetics to defend the resurrection. Augustine (335-430) used it against Paganism and Thomas Aquinas (1224–1274) used Christian Apologetics against the intellectual spread of Islam. Today the challenges to the Gospel are as great, and there is no reason 21st century Christians cannot successfully use apologetics to share the reason for our hope in Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 3:15).

Practical Apologetics Training is Starting Again!

The Practical Apologetics team will be offering Dr. Frank Turek’s course, Stealing From God.

Three years ago, MID WEEK Practical Apologetics studied Dr. Frank Turek’s “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist.” This year we will study, Turek’s, “Stealing from God.”

Today’s media-driven culture would have you believe that atheists have reason, evidence, and science on their side. That is not true. This apologetics course will demonstrate how atheists try to make their case by stealing reason, evidence, science, and other arguments from God. Atheists can’t structure their arguments without appealing to realities only theism can explain. This Stealing from God structured course exposes the intellectual crimes atheists are committing and then provides powerful reasons for why Christianity is true.

This 12-week course, is starting August 17, 2022, and will run through November 02, 2022.

Additionally, the Practical Apologetics team will recommend additional resources — books, videos, Podcasts, Events, and online ministries that offer self-directed Apologetics training.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm.
